One-way campervan hire in Australia: what each company charges

Most east coast trips start in one city and end in another. Here is what each rental company publishes for that one-way fee, and the conditions that matter more than the fee.

Short answer: on the east coast, published one-way fees run from A$0 (Spaceships) to A$200 (Britz, Apollo and Mighty). Cruisin' charges A$165 but needs 21 days. Star RV, JUCY and Travellers Autobarn only show it in your quote.

What the fee changes on a real trip

On our example Sydney to Cairns trip (21 days, 4 people, A$200 a day, diesel and campsites included), the one-way fee moves the estimated total from A$6,007 with no fee, to A$6,172 at A$165, to A$6,207 at A$200. The daily rate matters far more: A$20 a day more over 21 days is A$420.

So compare total quotes for your dates, not the one-way fee alone. Our planner adds each company's published fee for you.

Conditions that can rule a company out

  • Minimum days. Cruisin' needs 21 days for a one-way hire, so a 14-day Cairns to Brisbane trip won't work with them.
  • Approval. Star RV approves each one-way hire, subject to availability.
  • Branches. You can only pick up and drop off at a company's own branches. All the companies above have branches in Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns.
