"Not published" means we couldn't find the figure in a public listing — ask the company. Specifications are "or similar" and can change between vehicles.

What every vehicle here has in common

The four vehicles with published specifications all sleep six adults, have an onboard toilet and shower, and list two seat belts in the driver's cab and four in the rear.

How to choose

Travelling with small children

Count your car seats first. The Mighty Big Six lists space for one child or booster seat; the Britz, Cheapa and Cruisin' listings say two. These listings say seats aren't supplied with the rental, so ask about hiring them or bring your own. Our child seat guide compares each company's limits.

Long one-way trips

On a 2,400 km trip like Sydney to Cairns, the gap between 11 and 14 L/100 km is roughly 70–85 litres of diesel, depending on detours — about A$160–185 at A$2.20 a litre.

Newer or cheaper?

Budget brands such as Cheapa use older vehicles to keep daily rates down. If you're on the road for three weeks, a newer vehicle with a bigger fridge may be worth the extra.

Licence: comparison listings say popular 6-berth rentals can be driven on a regular full (unrestricted) car licence — confirm with the rental company. If your licence isn't in English, some companies, such as JUCY, require an International Driving Permit or a certified translation.

Young drivers

Most rental companies set the minimum age at 21. A few accept drivers from 18: Travellers Autobarn and Spaceships say they charge no young-driver fee, while JUCY's terms apply a surcharge to drivers aged 18–20 on its cars. These companies mostly rent smaller campervans rather than 6-berth motorhomes.
